Friends and Neighbors of the Second District,

Some of you know me because I volunteer with the Long Beach Fire Department's Community Emergency Response Team, Long Beach Heritage home tours,  Bembridge House, Neighborhood Leadership Program or as a pollworker for many elections. Others may have met me through my work placing foreign exchange students, as the organizer of the Long Beach Peace Festival, or as co-coordinator of the Long Beach Greens.

When I moved to downtown Long Beach with my husband, Coby Skye, and realized how much growing crime we had, I started a Neighborhood Crime Watch.  For a few months I went door to door and got enough people involved that we could keep an eye on each other's alleys and parking lots.

I love the City of Long Beach and I hope my commitment shows through my many volunteer activities, such as serving on the Boards of the Coalition for a Safe Environment and Californians for Electoral Reform, actively participating in dozens of environmental, social justice, and community organizations, and participating in and organizing local workshops, community and beach cleanups, and other events.

I've attended City Council meetings for years, advocating for the best interests of my neighbors and my neighborhoods. I am running for City Council because I want to work collaboratively with businesses and neighborhood groups to improve the City of Long Beach and use the tremendous resources of the Second District to make our community more safe, clean and sustainable.
